5.42 In 2003/04, 50% of households in the South West had access to the Internet at home (see chart). This is the same as the UK average and is a significant increase from 9% in 1998/89.

5.43 According to British Telecom, ADSL broadband is now already available to more than 97% of the region's homes (compared with the UK average of 94.7% in 2005). In 2006 , the South West Grid for Learning reported that with the exception of one, all schools within the region were connected to Broadband.
