6.52 With an increasing population, with household numbers expected to rise significantly and with a strong and growing economy, it is foreseeable that the pressure on housing stock will continue to worsen. Whilst housing provision may now be above required levels (for RPG10), it is now certain that this supply rate will not be enough to meet demand or reduce the problems of affordability. These issues are coupled with the need to improve the quality and sustainability of dwellings for such a highly dispersed population. While the South West will continue to face many housing challenges, there are still real opportunities to develop integrated communities whilst maintaining the high environmental qualities of the region.
