Religion
1.35 The 2001 Census was the first to ask people about their religious identity. It was the only voluntary question in the Census and 8% of residents chose not to answer it. Most residents in the South West identified with a religion; 74% with Christianity, slightly higher than for England. However, South West residents were less likely to identify with a religion than the England average. City of Bristol had the highest percentage of residents identifying with a religion other than Christianity.
