Ageing

8.68 The South West has an ageing population as a consequence of long life expectancy, falling conception rates, retirement of the baby boom generation and net inward migration. However, age doesn’t necessarily equate with poor health since mature adults in the South West are healthier than those in the rest of England. However there are sub-regional variations in this. Mature adults in the South West are better off than in England as a whole, though once again there are socio-economic variations in deprivation.
