9.40 In terms of crime rates per head of population there are also notable differences across the region, with recorded crime rates ranging from 176 per 1,000 population in Bristol to 42 per 1,000 population in North Dorset.

9.41 Nine of the 45 district and unitary authorities in the South West exhibit crime rates per 1,000 population which are in excess of the England and Wales average of 100. A further two exhibit crime rates above the regional average of 86.
