Ownership of Household Goods

10.16 The ownership of a range of household goods provides some indication of the relative prosperity of the population. Overall, households in the South West compare favourably to the England average. The rural nature of the region is reflected in the fact that 82% of households in the region own one or more cars or vans. This is the highest percentage of car ownership of any region and is well above the England average (75%). The South West has the joint third highest amount of households with an Internet connection (55%, England average 53%). The number of SW households with a home computer (65%) is, along with the South East, the joint second highest (England 63%).
