The 2008 South West Regional Accounts are now available. The new Accounts present estimates of GVA and other key variables for 1998 to 2005 at a detailed industry level for the South West, London, GB and SW sub-regions. The data set has been fully revised, improving data sources and estimation methodologies across a number of industries; the Accounts make use of the latest ABI/2 data. The structural map of the SW economy and economic impact tool have been updated from 2003 to 2004.
The Regional Accounts present a detailed picture of the region's economy and are a major information resource for people who work in economic development, policy or teach and study economics. The Regional Accounts are estimated from the best sources of published and unpublished regional data providing a consistent and structured framework for the information. The Accounts contain, for example, detailed industry information on value-added, employment income, spending on goods and services, capital investment, firm size, employment, working hours, worker qualifications and occupation structure; information on household incomes and spending as well as spending by tourists; detailed information on markets - linkages between South West firms, exports and imports.
The information in the accounts is 'interactive' so for example, the information on value-added and working hours can easily be combined to give a measure of labour productivity. Most of the main variables are available not just for the SW region but for GB, London, 'other' GB regions and the 15 Unitary Authority/County sub-regions of the South West. The accounts also include time series data from 1998 to 2005.

The Accounts also incorporate an economic impact analysis tool that can be used to value the direct and indirect (multiplier effects) consequences of change within the economy, such as the relocation of a firm to the region.
The Accounts are available free of charge in a specially designed piece of software called ECON|i. To download a copy of ECON|i please click on the link attached and follow the instructions Download Accounts.
