The sheer volume of statistics available from the 2001 Census means it is sometimes difficult to find what you are looking for. The following pages provide a brief guide to what information is available from the 2001 Census with web links to data and further information.
The 2001 Census provides a detailed picture of the population covering:
- the resident population and the number of people living in households, communal establishments and the armed forces population
- population density
- housing stock, house type, number of rooms and occupancy
- tenure, amenities, access to cars/vans and household deprivation
- household size, living arrangements and dependent children
- age, sex and marital status
- country of birth, ethnic group and religion
- general health. limiting long term illness and provision of unpaid care
- migration
- school children and students in full time education
- qualifications, economic status and socio-economic classification (16 to 74 year olds)
- occupation, industry and hours of work (16 to 74 year olds in work)
- working at or from home, distance travelled and method of travel to work (16 to 74 year olds in work)
- the workplace population
- the day time population
Information is available for the following geographies:

Census results will also be available for Super Output Areas and 2004 wards.
