SWO organises regular events of interest to those working in research, analysis and policy-making. We also organise regular training days in using research to help inform policy-making.

Over 2012/13 SWO ran a number of policy seminars coinciding with the release of Census 2011 data. These explored how Census data, together with other sources of information, might help inform decision making in relation to specific policy drivers.

In conjunction with Plymouth University we now offer various statistical training courses covering Introductory Statistics through to Detailed Survey Design.

The Regional Intelligence Group (RIG) is open to the Observatory’s network of individuals and organisations working in data, research and analysis, who are keen to improve their effectiveness by working together and sharing ideas.

A quarterly themed meeting provides an opportunity to see presentations on new and ongoing work and to share news and ideas with RIG members through an information exchange. This is written up and disseminated here on the SWO website.
