Delegates convened in Gloucester for the first policy seminar which focused on population and demographic change. This event was hosted by inform Gloucestershire at the County Council buildings in Gloucestershire.

The seminar considered questions around putting into practice the local population projection for Gloucestershire and looked at progress in improving migration statistics. In addition, delegates were briefed on what changing age profiles might do to the South West workforce in 2031 and also how we might better understand health inequalities in view of a changing demographic structure.

Migration Statistics Improvement Work

  • In addition, Nigel Swier took away a some of questions from the event and has provided answers below:

1. Will the indicative estimates separately identify the student adjustments for each LA? Yes

2. Is Communities and Local Government (CLG) planning to revise their household projections following implementation of the improvements package of improvements in May 2010? CLG are planning to do 2008-based household projections using 2008-based sub-national projections for England as an input, which are being published 27 May 2010. ONS understand CLG has not yet decided on a firm date, but they are looking at a window of the 3 months following that (i.e. June-August 2010).
