Understanding & Influencing the Legislative Process (March 2011)

House of Commons
The Government’s Localism agenda places the onus on local authorities and partners to better understand and interact with the government process directly.

This practical event, hosted by the South West Observatory and Parliamentary Outreach, looked at methods to keep track of legislation going through Parliament and suggest ways and means to feed in to the process in order to help secure positive outcomes for your area.

Speakers included Jonathan Coe, Programme Manager at the South West RDA, who spoke about inputting into policy development and Baroness Jean Corston (former Bristol East MP and sitting member of the House of Lords) who looked at engaging with Parliamentarians. To access presentations from the day see below. In due course a briefing note on Understanding and Influencing the Legislative Process will be made available via this section of the site.

Parliamentary Outreach
Parliamentary Outreach spreads awareness of the work, processes and relevance of the institution of Parliament, encouraging greater engagement between the public and the House of Commons and House of Lords. For more information, click on the link above.
