Local Economic Development
Economic Development offers local government, local communities and the private and not-for-profit sectors, the opportunity to work together to improve a local economy.
Here the South West Observatory provides general information on aspects of local economic development to assist local partners working on issues and problems in common and to facilitate collaboration. Building on our work in coordinating an evidence base to support Local Economic Assessments, we aim to provide a resource to help navigate and respond to emerging local economic development policies and initiatives, including Local Enterprise Partnerships and the Regional Growth Fund.

Developing a Consistent Approach to Economic Assessments Project Report (June 2011)

This report aims to tell the story of the project, to summarise the achievements and to provide information on any 'lessons learnt' in order to help similar projects in the future. The two-year RIEP-funded project included the appointment of a full-time co-ordinator from July 2009 until end of June 2011.
