The second tier of biodiversity information consists of the specific sites where biodiversity is conserved or legally protected. The various designations include:
International Sites
Special Areas of Conservation ( SACs)
Special Protection Areas ( SPAs)
Ramsar sites
National Sites
National Nature Reserves ( NNRs)
Sites of Special Scientific Interest ( SSSIs)

Marine Nature Reserves. Lundy Marine Nature Reserve in the Bristol Channel was the first MNR in England.
Local Sites
Local Nature Reserves ( LNRs)
County Wildlife Sites or equivalent. For example, see Wiltshire Wildlife Sites and Devon Wildlife Sites
Various conservation organisation sites, such as: Wildlife Trust Reserves and RSPB Reserves
