Indices of Multiple Deprivation 2004

Please note that these documents all use the corrected data published by ODPM on 18th July 2004

These documents present South West regional analysis of the Indices of Multiple Deprivation rankings. They reflect analysis requested by colleagues attending an IMD meeting held by the SWO on 27th May 2004.

They include an overview of results (1.5 mb pdf file), maps of the Index of Multiple Deprivation at Super Output Area level and the seven deprivation domains:

- Health deprivations and disability
- Employment
- Income
- Education, skills and training
- Living environment
- Barriers to housing and services

In addition there are maps of sub-domains and supplementary indices, maps of the district/unitary level measures,

The 32,482 SOAs in England were ranked according to their score for each of the deprivation domains and for multiple deprivation and were divided into quartiles with SOAs in the first quartile (SOAs ranking from 1 to 8,120) representing the most deprived.

Maps in this document show the distribution of SOAs within the South West within the quartiles with the darkest shading illustrating those areas amongst the most deprived nationally.

The Table below shows the lowest (most deprived) and highest (least deprived) rankings within the South West.

The report is currently available as either one very large PDF file or a series of large ones. The files are on the large side as all the maps are stored in their original vector format, which keeps the quality when zoomed in or printed off on large printers.

If you are downloading these then please check with your colleagues at the same location to ensure that you download them only once in order to keep the load on this site and your internal network to a minimum.

The full map book is available as a 6.5 MB PDF file which has had the maps converted from vector format (ideal for zooming in and printing out large maps, but big file size) to raster format (lower file size, but not good for zooming in). This file is fine for A4 printing. If you want the higher quality maps then please download the separate files below.
