Regional and Sub-Regional Household Income Estimates
The 2008 Regional and Sub Regional Gross Disposable Household Income (GDHI) estimates were released on 31st March 2010 by the Office for National Statistics.
GDHI is the amount that households have to spend or save after deduction of income and property taxes and National Insurance and social contributions. The latest release includes revisions to earlier years. All estimates in the release are in current price terms and have not been adjusted for inflation. There are estimates for NUTS 1, 2 and 3 areas (regions, sub-regions and local areas).

The headline GDHI estimates indicate that, in
2008:

Total GDHI for the South West
was about £76,500 million, 4.3% higher than in 2007;

The region’s GDHI per head was
£14,700, 3.7% higher than in 2007;

The South West had the fourth
highest GDHI per head of the twelve UK regions, behind London, the South
East and the East of England.

The GDHI per head Index (UK=100)
for the South West was 99, among other regions it ranged from 84 in the
North East to 128 in London;

At NUTS 2 level, GDHI per head
ranged from £13,000 in Cornwall & the Isles of Scilly to £15,400 in
Dorset & Somerset (including Bournemouth & Poole);

Gloucestershire had the highest
GDHI per head (£15,900) among South West NUTS 3 areas, while Plymouth
(£12,100) had the lowest.
