11.4.1 Culture and sport, creativity and innovation, are central themes to the state of culture in South West England. At the forefront of the region’s economic prosperity and way of life, are a strong creative and visitor economy,
and a rich cultural heritage and infrastructure. In spite of recent global recession and on-going public spending cuts, research shows the region’s cultural sector continues to thrive and grow. In addition, the profile of cultural and sporting activities is enhanced by the region’s involvement in the London 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games, and by a Cultural Olympiad programme.
