What's New Core Unit

SWO EVENTS PROGRAMME LAUNCHED - The Observatory network's 2010/11 events programme is now underway, with online booking for the four remaining events looking at Population Projections, Economics Demystified and Public Health Information and Evidence now open. For more information about these events and to book please see the SWO Events 2010/11 webpage. PLEASE BE AWARE THAT DUE TO UNFORESEEN CIRCUMSTANCES THE PLACE MAKING EVENT FOR 24/09 HAS HAD TO BE POSTPONED.
IMPROVED ONLINE STATE OF THE SOUTH WEST 2010 - Further to alterations this month, you can now search the online State of the South West 2010 by cross-cutting themes on demography, deprivation, ageing, climate change and equality. Shortly, new additions will be made to make more accessible online content grouped by specific geographies. In addition, we now have two online versions of this year's report. Tell us which you prefer by taking the 2 minute State of the South West survey.
NEW LOCAL PROFILES SECTION NOW ONLINE - SWO has recently compiled an online database offering an overview of Local Profiles completed in the South West. This includes links through to Local Profiles completed by those in our network and also from national bodies, such as NOMIS and ONS. For more, see the SWO Local Profiles.
LOCAL ECONOMIC ASSESSMENTS - For the latest on LEAs from the South West and further afield, including Shropshire's LEA recently out for consultation, see the LEA section of this site.

ECONOMY - For two new papers on Political Economy - the current debate and Business and Finance - Coalition Consultation see the Economy Module website. 
ENVIRONMENT -For the State of the Countryside 2010 Report, signposted by SWENVO, see the Commission for Rural Communities website. 
PLANNING - With changes to structure and funding the Planning Module will no longer be maintained by authors from South West Councils. Watch this space for more information on how SWO will take this Thematic Module forward in the Autumn.  
SKILLS AND LEARNING - Access the South West Skills Newsletterfrom August 2010 for the latest on activities from SLIM.For the most recent publications, including Employment and Skills: The Role of Regeneration in Supporting Communities, see the SLIM website.
PUBLIC HEALTH - Via the SWPHO site you can now access the NDTMS South West Drug and Alcohol Quarterly Data Report 2009-10
CULTURE - On the Culture Module website, you can now access an advice sheet about Publications and Tools available by Cultural Agency

For information, the ONS Regional Analyst for the South West has recently left post and will not be replaced. The SWO Core Unit and Economy Module will continue to sign post useful information, such as upcoming Data Releases, and will work together to make the best use of existing ONS material on this website.
